Community Tattoo

September 15 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Unfortunately, the sights and sounds of the Pipes and Drums and Highland Dancing returning to the Town of Carleton Place on Sunday, June 23rd had to be postponed due to inclement weather.

The rescheduled date is Sunday, September 15th beginning at 12 noon on the grounds adjoining the Captain A. Roy Brown Legion Branch 192 building located at 177 George Street in Carleton Place. It will remain to be held as a tribute to the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force. And to assist with this tribute, the Royal Canadian Air Force Pipes and Drums from Ottawa will be the Duty Band for the Tattoo and will proudly wear the R.C.A.F. tartan.

The Duty Band will perform individually and with the opening and closing massed band performances. Other bands participating in addition to the Royal Canadian Air Force band will include the R.C.M.P. Pipe Band Ottawa and their Highland dancers, the Highland Mist Pipe Band from Ottawa, the Kemptville Legion Pipes and Drums, the Smiths Falls Gordon Pipe Band, the Almonte Legion Branch 240 Pipe Band, the Sons of Scotland Pipe Band of Ottawa, and the Ottawa Caledonian Pipes and Drums. And to add to the Scottish Heritage event, the Rosemary Breman Highland Dancers from Carleton Place will also perform.

Refreshments and BBQ food will be available throughout the afternoon in the backyard of the Legion grounds at a nominal cost. There will be no admission price, but a collection will be taken during the afternoon performances.

In order to not impede the marching of the Pipe and Drum Bands and our Highland Dancers, spectators are being asked to not congregate on the playing field or on the outside perimeter of the playing field or on any of the surrounding streets. These areas will be cordoned off for access for the Pipe Bands and will be policed with the assistance of our local O.P.P.

Spectators are asked to only congregate in the backyard of the Legion grounds. Although there is some seating available, it is suggested that people bring their own lawn chairs. Unfortunately, due to Legion rules, pets are not allowed on the Legion grounds, and only specialized Service Dogs will be permitted.

Road closures that will take place for the Tattoo will include Morphy Street from Mullet Street to Ramsay Street, and Ramsay Street from Morphy Street to George Street. This area will be policed and cordoned off and cars are asked not to park on these two (2) streets and pedestrians are also asked not to congregate on either of these two (2) streets. Pipe bands will be congregating on Morphy Street and march along Ramsay Street to George Street prior to marching onto the playing field to perform throughout the afternoon.

Although there are three (3) gates that lead into the backyard of the Legion, the only one (1) that is to be used by the general public is the gate off Mullet Street into the Legion’s backyard. This gate is also to be used for the handicapped. Entrance to the backyard of the Legion may also be gained through the Legion building. The upper deck of the Legion will be reserved for the handicapped and their caregivers only.

There is a gate off of Morphy Street which is only to be used by Pipe Band members, and the gate off of the playing field is only to be used by Tattoo officials, Highland Dancers, and photographers.

This is a community event and the general public is cordially invited to enjoy some real Scottish Heritage through the sights and sounds of the Pipes and Drums and Highland Dancers. The event is being sponsored by TES (Tops Environmental Solutions) and the Town of Carleton Place.
