WHEREAS, municipal governments deliver the services residents rely on every day, from safe drinking water, roads and waste collection to recreation, libraries, emergency services and land use planning, and play a vital role in shaping the character, priorities and quality of life of our community; and
WHEREAS, the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO), together with the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) and the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, recognizes the third full week of October each year as Local Government Week across the Province of Ontario; and
WHEREAS, Local Government Week is an opportunity to increase public and youth awareness of the importance of local government, the ways residents can get involved, and the rewarding career opportunities available in the municipal sector; and
WHEREAS, the staff of the Town of Carleton Place serve our residents every day with professionalism, integrity and dedication; and
WHEREAS, Local Government Week 2026 falls in the days immediately preceding the 2026 Municipal and School Board Election on Monday, October 26, 2026, making it a timely reminder that every eligible elector has a voice in shaping the future of our community;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Toby Randell, Mayor of the Town of Carleton Place, do hereby proclaim October 18-24, 2026, as Local Government Week in the Town of Carleton Place.
I encourage all residents to learn more about their local government, to engage with their Council and municipal staff, and to exercise their right to vote in the 2026 Municipal and School Board Election.
