WHEREAS the month of June is recognized across Canada as National Indigenous History Month, a time to honour and celebrate the rich histories, heritage, resilience, and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples; and
WHEREAS this month provides an opportunity to deepen our understanding of Indigenous cultures and the foundational role Indigenous Peoples have played—and continue to play—in shaping the land and identity of what is now called Canada; and
WHEREAS the Town of Carleton Place is located on the unceded traditional territory of the Algonquin Anishinabe Nation, whose deep connection to this land continues to this day; and
WHEREAS National Indigenous History Month serves not only as a time of recognition and learning, but also as a call to action for all Canadians to walk the path of reconciliation and respect by listening, reflecting, and actively supporting Indigenous voices and leadership;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Toby Randell, Mayor of the Town of Carleton Place, do hereby proclaim June 2025 as National Indigenous History Month in the Town of Carleton Place.
I encourage all residents to take time this month to explore Indigenous histories, celebrate Indigenous cultures, and engage in meaningful actions that promote justice, equity, and understanding.
