Pride Season – June 2026

WHEREAS Pride Season refers to the wide range of Pride events held from June through September, when 2SLGBTQI+ communities and allies come together to spotlight resilience, celebrate talent, and recognize the many contributions of 2SLGBTQI+ individuals and communities; and

WHEREAS Pride gatherings originated from the first large-scale protests for 2SLGBTQI+ rights, with Canada’s first demonstrations taking place in Ottawa and Vancouver in 1971, laying the foundation for a growing movement for equality, dignity, and human rights; and

WHEREAS by 1973, Pride events had expanded to several Canadian cities, including Montréal, Ottawa, Saskatoon, Toronto, Vancouver, and Winnipeg, reflecting the strength and visibility of 2SLGBTQI+ communities nationwide; and

WHEREAS Pride Season serves as both a celebration of progress and an important reminder that the pursuit of full inclusion, safety, and acceptance for all people continues; and

WHEREAS the Town of Carleton Place is committed to fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful community where diversity is embraced and every individual is valued;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Toby Randell, Mayor of the Town of Carleton Place, do hereby proclaim June through September 2026 as Pride Season in the Town of Carleton Place.

I encourage all residents to recognize and celebrate the history, resilience, and contributions of 2SLGBTQI+ communities, to stand against discrimination in all its forms, and to work together in building a more inclusive and equitable future for everyone.
