WHEREAS gender-based violence is a pervasive violation of human rights that affects women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ individuals in our community and around the world; and
WHEREAS the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is observed annually from November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to December 10, International Human Rights Day; and
WHEREAS this international campaign, established in 1991, serves as a critical platform to raise awareness, advocate for prevention, and support survivors of gender-based violence; and
WHEREAS this year’s international theme is “Ending Digital Violence Against Women and Girls,” which recognizes the growing threat of technology-facilitated abuse; and
WHEREAS ending gender-based violence requires collective action from individuals, organizations, governments, and communities working together to challenge harmful attitudes, support survivors, and hold perpetrators accountable; and
WHEREAS the Town of Carleton Place is committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive community where all individuals can live free from violence and fear;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Toby Randell, Mayor of the Town of Carleton Place, do hereby proclaim November 25 to December 10, 2025, as 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence in Carleton Place.
I encourage all residents to join in raising awareness, supporting survivors, and working toward the elimination of all forms of gender-based violence in our community and beyond.
