WHEREAS, National Child Day is celebrated annually on November 20th to recognize Canada’s commitment to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which affirms the rights of children to be heard, protected, and
WHEREAS, by ratifying the Convention in 1991, Canada committed to ensuring that all children are treated with dignity and respect and have every opportunity to reach their full potential; and
WHEREAS, the Convention recognizes the right of every child to safety, health, education and play, and to express their views and have them taken seriously in matters that affect their lives; and
WHEREAS, children and youth are valued members of our community today, and their voices, ideas and energy help make Carleton Place a vibrant and welcoming place to grow up; and
WHEREAS, families, caregivers, educators and community organizations in Carleton Place work every day to ensure that our children feel safe, supported and included;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Toby Randell, Mayor of the Town of Carleton Place, do hereby proclaim November 20, 2026, as National Child Day in the Town of Carleton Place.
I encourage all residents to celebrate the children and youth in our community, to listen to their voices, and to support the rights, well-being and potential of every child.
