WHEREAS, October 18-24, 2026, is celebrated across the Province as Ontario Public Library Week, coordinated by the Ontario Library Association to raise awareness of the valuable role public libraries play in the lives of Ontarians and their communities; and
WHEREAS, the Carleton Place Public Library is a community hub for lifelong learning, literacy, connection and creativity, providing residents of all ages with free and equitable access to information, technology, programs and resources that help them live, learn and work; and
WHEREAS, the Library Board, staff and volunteers of the Carleton Place Public Library provide a vital service to our community with dedication, knowledge and care; and
WHEREAS, the 2026 theme, Loud for Libraries, challenges the long-held image of libraries as quiet, passive spaces and recognizes them as vibrant places for dialogue, creativity, connection and civic participation – institutions worth speaking up for; and
WHEREAS, Ontario Public Library Week 2026 takes place in the days immediately before the Municipal and School Board Election on October 26, 2026, and invites residents to consider how they will speak up, stand up and vote for strong public libraries in their community;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Toby Randell, Mayor of the Town of Carleton Place, do hereby proclaim October 18-24, 2026, as Ontario Public Library Week in the Town of Carleton Place.
I encourage all residents to be Loud for Libraries by visiting the Carleton Place Public Library, taking part in its programs and events, and showing their support for the library this week and throughout the year.
