Excavation Permit

Prior to excavating in the municipal right-of-way, contractors must obtain an excavation permit from the Carleton Place Public Works Department. This permit will give the identified contractor approval to proceed with their work, and outline the conditions that must be followed. As of January 1st, 2020, the Town of Carleton Place is charging a fee of $100 for the issuance of each excavation permit. When completed, the application for a permit should be emailed to Liam MacIntosh, Public Works Technician, at lmacintosh@carletonplace.ca. Once the submission is approved, a staff member of Public Works will reach out to provide confirmation that the excavation permit is ready to be paid for. There will be a summary document provided that should be attached to payment. The excavation permit will be issued at the time of payment. Cheques can be dropped off in person at the Carleton Place Town Hall during regular business hours or mailed to 175 Bridge St, Carleton Place, ON, K7C 2V8. If a cheque is received by mail, we will release the excavation permit electronically.

If the work proposed involves the installation of new plant in the municipal right-of-way, it will require municipal consent from Carleton Place Public Works prior to applying for an excavation permit. Road Cut Moratorium List

The Town of Carleton Place imposes a 5 year moratorium on any road cuts to streets that have been resurfaced or constructed. The following is a list of streets that currently fall under our road cut moratorium. For more information, contact our Public Works department at 613-257-2253.
