WHEREAS breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among Canadian women and can affect people of all genders, as well as their families, friends, caregivers and communities; and
WHEREAS approximately one in eight Canadian women is expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime; and
WHEREAS increased awareness, access to screening and timely diagnosis can contribute to earlier detection and improved health outcomes; and
WHEREAS advances in research, treatment and support services continue to improve the lives of people diagnosed with breast cancer and those living beyond it; and
WHEREAS Breast Cancer Awareness Month provides an opportunity to honour those who have been diagnosed, remember those who have died, recognize caregivers and healthcare professionals, and support continued research, education and compassionate care;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Toby Randell, Mayor of the Town of Carleton Place, do hereby proclaim October 2026 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the Town of Carleton Place and encourage residents to learn about breast health and screening, support those affected by breast cancer, and recognize the individuals and organizations working toward better prevention, treatment and outcomes.
