WHEREAS International Women’s Day is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women throughout history and around the world; and
WHEREAS the 2026 theme of International Women’s Day is ‘Give to Gain’ which encourages a mindset of generosity and collaboration, emphasizing the power of reciprocity and support; and
WHEREAS ‘Give to Gain’ recognizes that when people, organizations, and communities give generously through donations, knowledge, resources, infrastructure, visibility, advocacy, education, training, mentoring, or time, opportunities and support for women increase, and that giving is not a subtraction but an intentional multiplication – when women thrive, we all rise; and
WHEREAS women in Carleton Place and across Canada have made and continue to make extraordinary contributions to our community in all areas of public and private life; and
WHEREAS the Town of Carleton Place is committed to promoting gender equality, supporting women’s empowerment, and creating an inclusive community where all women can thrive;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Toby Randell, do hereby proclaim March 8, 2026 as International Women’s Day in the Town of Carleton Place, and encourage all residents to celebrate the achievements of women in our community, reflect on the progress made toward gender equality, and consider what they will give to gain a more supportive and equitable world for all.
