National Day of Mourning 2025

WHEREAS every year, thousands of workers are killed, injured, or suffer illness as a result of work-related incidents in Canada; and

WHEREAS the National Day of Mourning is observed annually on April 28 to remembering those who have lost their lives, suffered injury or illness on the job, or experienced a work-related tragedy.; and

WHEREAS this day offers us the opportunity to reflect on the vital importance of workplace health and safety, and to renew our commitment to preventing further tragedies through education, enforcement, and accountability; and

WHEREAS the Town of Carleton Place recognizes the right of every worker to a safe and healthy workplace, and stands in solidarity with workers, families, and communities affected by workplace injuries and fatalities;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, Toby Randell Mayor of the Town of Carleton Place, do hereby proclaim April 28, 2025, as the National Day of Mourning in the Town of Carleton Place, and encourage all citizens to observe a moment of silence at 11:00 a.m. to remember and honour those lives lost or injured in the workplace.
