WHEREAS Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological disorder that affects movement and impacts more than 110,000 Canadians and their families, each with their own unique story; and
WHEREAS April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month—a time to amplify the voices of people living with Parkinson’s, shed light on the realities of Parkinson’s across Canada, and challenge misconceptions about this disease; and
WHEREAS this year’s theme puts the spotlight on courage and ‘swagger’- the determination, resilience, and individuality that people with Parkinson’s bring to their daily lives as they push past challenges, celebrate victories, and find new ways to keep moving forward; and
WHEREAS increased awareness, research funding, and community support are essential to improving treatment options, finding a cure, and empowering people affected by Parkinson’s to thrive and live courageously; and
WHEREAS the Town of Carleton Place stands in solidarity with individuals and families affected by Parkinson’s disease and recognizes the importance of compassion, understanding, and community support;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Toby Randell, do hereby proclaim April 2026 as Parkinson’s Awareness Month in the Town of Carleton Place, and encourage all residents to learn about Parkinson’s disease, share the stories of those living with this condition, support local organizations working to assist those affected, and show compassion and understanding toward community members living courageously with Parkinson’s.
