National Tree Day: September 23, 2026
WHEREAS forests and trees are an essential part of Canada’s natural heritage and provide habitat for wildlife, support biodiversity, protect watersheds, improve air quality, store carbon and contribute to a healthy environment; and
WHEREAS forests and trees support communities and economies through recreation, tourism, employment, renewable resources and other benefits; and
WHEREAS responsible forest management, conservation, restoration and stewardship are essential to maintaining healthy forests and thriving tree canopies for present and future generations; and
WHEREAS planting, caring for and preserving trees can provide lasting environmental, social, cultural and economic benefits and help address climate change, protect biodiversity and create resilient communities; and
WHEREAS the Town’s Urban Forest/River Corridor Committee supports community awareness, stewardship and initiatives that protect and enhance the Town’s urban forest, river corridor and natural environment; and
WHEREAS National Forest Week and National Tree Day provide opportunities to recognize the importance of forests and trees, increase public understanding of their many benefits, and encourage responsible care, planting, conservation and stewardship;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Toby Randell, Mayor of the Town of Carleton Place, do hereby proclaim September 20–26, 2026, as National Forest Week, including September 23, 2026, as National Tree Day, in the Town of Carleton Place and encourage residents to learn about the importance of forests and trees, enjoy and respect local natural areas, care for existing trees, plant where appropriate, and support the work of the Town’s Urban Forest/River Corridor Committee and other efforts to protect, restore and expand the community’s tree canopy and river corridor.
